12-second example rendered by this skill from examples/halden · 1280×720
What you get
- A self-contained index.html hero and an embed.html to paste into an existing site
- Your backbone and base colours, data labels, locus and sequence, with your fonts, logo, headline and buttons
- 22 documented effect settings: seed, loop length, turns, direction, sequence, colours, radius, tilt, lean, length, focus, glow, read, labels, ruler, locus and motes
- Dark lab screens or light pages, left, right or centered layouts, with the helix lying across the picture above the copy on phones
- An SVG still picture for reduced motion or a failed canvas, so the hero is never blank
- Contrast and layout checks at 390, 768, 1024 and 1440 px
- A frame-perfect MP4 that loops seamlessly (1080p by default, portrait sizes too) and a poster
- Open-source licenses for every part it builds on
Good fit
- Genomics, sequencing and biotech companies can show a lit helix on a dark lab screen, with labels in the units their product really reports.
- Ancestry kits and consumer health pages can use a warm light page, where the beads read as glossy model atoms instead of glowing.
- Science education sites and pharma launches get a seamless loop of 8 to 16 seconds to record as a 1080p video for social posts.
Not for
- Showing a visitor's real genetic data: the sequence and labels are illustrative
- Brands outside science and health, where a helix reads as a cliché
- Full landing pages below the hero (see the Landing Pages series)
About this skill
A DNA double helix beside your headline, turning in real depth. Two backbones of glowing beads wind round each other, joined by rungs in the colours of their bases. The near end is soft and out of focus and the far end small and dim. A sequencing read slides along the helix inside a dotted ring and prints the bases it passes, data labels on leader lines take turns, and a ruler of base positions runs alongside. Your agent sets the colours, labels, locus and copy, checks contrast at four widths and records a seamless 1080p loop.
Example request
Build a DNA Helix hero for Halden Genomics, whole-genome sequencing for hospitals: near-black navy, teal and periwinkle backbones, labels for read depth, a variant call and GC content, headline 'Read it all. In five days.', and record a 12-second loop.
How it works
Your agent
- 1
Collect the brand
Every claim, price, date and spec in the copy must come from the person.
- 2
Write hero.json
Copy the closer example and replace everything:
examples/halden/hero.json(whole-genome sequencing for hospitals, near-black navy, teal and periwinkle backbones, copy on the left) orexamples/kinfold/hero.json(an ancestry kit, warm paper, rust and deep teal backbones, copy on the right). - 3
Build
It lists every problem in
hero.jsonat once (missing fields, text over its limit, a setting out of range, colours that don't contrast, backbone or base colours that won't show on the background, a label colour under 7:1, letters other than A, C, G and T in the sequence) and writes nothing until they're fixed. - 4
Check
It loads the page at 390, 768, 1024 and 1440 px and must say
okat each: nothing wider than the screen or cut off, readable contrast for every line of text (the build has already checked the text against every colour the effect can put behind it), names on every link and button, one h1. - 5
Look at it
They save
out/still-1440x900.pngandout/still-390x844.png, the live hero at 4.6 seconds. - 6
Record the video
It steps the hero through 8 seconds at 30 fps at 1920×1080, drawing each frame at exactly its time, and writes
out/preview.mp4(H.264, for X, LinkedIn, Product Hunt or a README) andout/poster.png(the frame at 4.6 s). - 7
Put it live
As a page: upload
out/index.htmlandout/assets/to any static host (Cloudflare Pages, Netlify, Vercel, GitHub Pages, S3).

- out/index.html
- out/embed.html

What you need
- Node.js 18 or newer. Nothing to install.
- Chrome, Chromium or Edge, for the checks and the recording (the scripts find it; set
CHROME_PATHif they don't). - ffmpeg, for the video (
brew install ffmpeg, winget install ffmpeg, apt install ffmpeg; or setFFMPEG_PATH). - At runtime, nothing but a 2D canvas: the drawing code is inlined in the page. Fonts load from jsDelivr (the pinned list) or Google Fonts; without the network the page uses system fonts.

Is the DNA sequence on screen real?
Only if you give one. You can set up to 120 bases, using the letters A, C, G and T, repeated along the helix; otherwise the seed makes one up. The labels, locus and ruler show what you write. The helix is an illustration, not a visitor’s data, so keep labels clear of medical claims.
How long can the data labels be, and how many show?
Up to 4 labels, each with a title of up to 22 characters and a detail line of up to 28. They show two at a time and take turns. On phones the helix lies across the picture above the copy, and labels appear only when the read is off, one at a time.
Does it need WebGL or an animation library?
No. The helix is drawn on a plain 2D canvas by code inlined in the page, with perspective, depth sorting and depth of field. Only the fonts load, from jsDelivr or Google Fonts. With reduced motion visitors get one still frame at 4.6 seconds, and if the canvas fails they see an SVG still.
Which agents is DNA Helix Hero written for?
Any agent that reads SKILL.md folders, including Claude Code, Codex, Cursor, GitHub Copilot, Gemini CLI and OpenCode.
Do I own what I make with it?
Yes. Everything your agent makes with this skill is yours, including for client and commercial work.
