Can Claude make videos? What works, and what doesn’t
Claude has no video generation model, but it can still make an MP4: Claude Motion on Team and Enterprise plans, or a video skill in Claude Code that renders it.

The short answer
- Yes, but not the way a video generation model does. Claude doesn’t film or generate footage. It makes a video by writing code that moves text, charts, shapes and images, and that code is recorded into an MP4.
- There are two ways to do that today. In the Claude app, Claude Motion makes animations you export as MP4; it is a beta on Team and Enterprise plans. In Claude Code, Codex or Cursor, a video skill writes the scenes and renders the MP4 on your own machine, so it doesn’t depend on Claude Motion being in your plan.
- Neither makes realistic people or live-action footage. For that you need a camera or a video model.
When people ask whether Claude can make videos, they usually mean one of two things: “can I type a prompt and get a clip?”, or “can Claude make the launch video or explainer I need?”. The answer to the first is no, because Claude has no video generation model. The answer to the second is often yes, because most of those videos are motion graphics, and motion graphics can be written as code.
The answer by where you use Claude
What Claude can’t make
- Realistic footage or people. Anthropic says it plainly about its own feature: “Claude Motion doesn’t use a video generation model, so it doesn’t create realistic footage or people.” A coding agent rendering HTML is in the same position: it draws what code can draw.
- Talking heads and voice-overs. Lookbk’s video skills don’t record or generate voice. Add a voice track in a video editor afterwards.
- Edits of your own footage. Neither route is a video editor for clips you filmed. Lookbk’s launch films use stills of your real screens, not screen recordings.
Route 1: Claude Motion, in the Claude app
Claude Motion is a template in Claude for short animations: Anthropic’s examples are an explainer for an all-hands, an animated chart for a board deck and a product walkthrough for onboarding. You ask for one in a chat or start from the Artifacts tab, edit it by asking for changes, and export an MP4. It counts toward your plan’s usage limits.
It is the quickest route if your organization is on Team or Enterprise and the template is turned on. Claude Motion: what it makes and which plans have it covers the plans, the admin setting and its limits in detail.
Route 2: Claude Code, Codex or Cursor with a video skill
A coding agent can write a video the way it writes a web page. Each scene is HTML and CSS with an animation timeline, and a renderer steps through it frame by frame in a headless Chrome and encodes the frames with FFmpeg. Text comes out sharp and spelled right, because no model draws it, and the same input renders the same video every time.
You can start from a blank page with an open renderer, HyperFrames (HTML, Apache 2.0) or Remotion (React, with its own license), or install a video skill that already holds the design. Lookbk’s video skills are built on HyperFrames: you give the agent your words, data or screens, it fills in the template, checks the layout and renders the MP4 locally. They call no AI model and ask for no API key.
Kinetic Title Drop, Pixel Quest Promo and Roller Diner Hero are free; the rest are Pro. For the setup and a first render step by step, see How to make videos with Claude Code. To choose between the two renderers and their official skills, see Remotion skill vs HyperFrames skills.

Common questions
- Can Claude generate a video from a text prompt?
- Not footage: Claude has no video generation model. On Team and Enterprise plans, Claude Motion builds an animation from your prompt as code and exports it as an MP4. In Claude Code, a video skill turns a prompt into a rendered MP4 the same way.
- Can Claude make videos on the Pro plan?
- Not with Claude Motion, which Anthropic lists for Team and Enterprise plans only, as of 8 October 2026. A video skill in Claude Code works on Pro, because the video is rendered on your machine rather than by a Claude feature, and the same skill works in Codex or Cursor.
- Can Claude Design make a video?
- Anthropic’s artifacts article lists MP4 as the export for animations made with the Motion template. Designs export as a .zip, PDF, PowerPoint or standalone HTML.
- Do I need an AI video model or an API key to make a video with a Lookbk skill?
- No. The video is drawn by a browser from the code your agent writes, and the skills call no AI model. The Footage Heroes ship footage that was generated for Lookbk in advance; nothing is generated on your machine.
- Can Claude add a voice-over to a video?
- Lookbk’s video skills don’t record or generate voice, and several come with their own soundtrack instead. Add a voice track in a video editor afterwards.
