Claude Cowork takes a skill through its app, not from a folder on your machine. A ZIP with the skill folder at its top level, such as my-skill.zip holding my-skill/SKILL.md.

- A SKILL.md at the root of the ZIP is not recognized. The skill folder itself must be the top level of the archive. Source

What are Claude Cowork skills?
A skill is a folder with a SKILL.md file: a name, a description and the steps to follow, plus any scripts or templates the job needs. Claude does not read every skill in full at the start of a conversation. It works through three stages.
Lookbook skills are built this way. Each one turns a request such as “make a launch film” or “build a landing page” into steps Claude Cowork can follow, and ships the files they need. You upload one as a ZIP in Claude Cowork.

How do I add a skill to Claude Cowork?
Open Customize › Skills › + › Create skill › Upload a skill in Claude Cowork and upload the skill. A ZIP with the skill folder at its top level, such as my-skill.zip holding my-skill/SKILL.md. A Lookbook skill downloads as a ZIP with the skill in a folder inside it.
Do I need to turn anything on first?
Code execution must be on for skills. On Enterprise plans, an owner must enable Code execution and file creation and Skills under Organization settings > Plugins & skills.
Do skills I upload in Claude also reach Claude Code?
The help article says account skills sync one way into Claude Code, so one upload can reach both. You need a recent Claude Code.
Have Lookbook’s skills been tested in Claude Cowork?
Lookbook has not recorded a run in Claude Cowork. The skills follow the open SKILL.md format, which Claude Cowork’s docs say it reads. Whether a skill’s own scripts run depends on the tools on your machine, listed on each skill page under What you need.
